haunting nightmares

: He sat up abrubtly. The feverish sleep he'd been drifting in and out of forgotten.
Some-one was in the room.
something was in the room.
his eyes darted over the smooth walls of his bed-chamber, but a dark, otherwordly gloom seemed to have fallen on the room. It was dark. darker than it should have been even with the door firmly shut. The few furnitings in the room looked distorted in the depressing atmosphere.
And then. there it was. the thing that had woken him. a soft voice. delicate and breathy. calling to him for his attentions.
He turned around hesitantly.
there, in the almost non-existant light she stood. her stance solemn and unmoving, his arms to her sides, her waist soaked in emerald blood.
Staring at him with a face that faded and changed irratically. flickering from one unsettling look to another.
her voice echoeing, although she herself never moved to speak.
"Young Emperor... ....injured lover... ....."
He swallowed dryly, his heart pounding so it much it almost made his vision throb, but he managed to choke out the words.
"De... ... ....a...? ...."
She remained cold and unmoving.
"....how could you?.. ....how could you betray me?... ..."
It took him 3 tried before he was able to shake his head ferverently. "Betray?? No... ..No I.. ..I never betrayed you! I never-..."
"But you did.. .." He face flicker again, but this time the indifferent tone dissapeared as an edge of venom entered.
"...You've forgotten me.. ..You've given up my memory.. ..you betrayed me.. ..you betrayed me..."
again he shook his head: "I wouldn't do something like that! You know I wouldn't!! You know I wouldn't!!"
"Then why did you??" the voice demanded.
he curled up his legs involuntarily. "please!! believe me I-...!!"
"You BETRAYED me." it insisted, angry and accusingly. "You put yourself and your personal wants above EVERYTHING the two of us ever stood! for!"
"no..."
the voice grew in it's conviction, the figure remaining still and unmoving before him. "You destroyed all that ever matter!! You tainted our memory forever!! Red! You BETRAYED ME!!"
He'd had enough. to hear his own thoughts and fears with such clarification was bad enough. but to hear them from HER some-how turned his blood to ice. He threw his arms over his head as her acusations and anger and harshness poured over. And before he realised it, before he was even aware he'd taken the breath, his voice screamed out: "GO AWAY!! PLEASE! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!"
it was as if a switch was flipped. the voice fell silent. The apparition vanished. the room lit up slightly.
He blinked and raised his head, suprised to find himself back under his covers, curled up tightly.
the room was empty. a dream. nothing moreBut he still sat up slowly, he still looked around the room silently... and when he realised it was, he still curled up cried softly.
"...come back.. ..."
